Technology today is toxic to democracy in America. The shared reality democracy requires is shattered by disinformation and echo chambers, dehumanizing and disconnecting Americans from their neighbors. Democratic participation and freedom of speech is suppressed by harassment from online mobs and unconstrained law enforcement, particularly in marginalized communities. AI is accelerating these negative trends, while cyber insecurity is eliminating citizen privacy.
