Government Effectiveness
Historic distrust of government is dismantling agencies, expertise, and public confidence.
Trust in the federal government is at its lowest levels in recorded history. Since January, this lack of trust, the information gap between what the public perceives and the reality of the situation, and an anti-elite narrative have fueled an ongoing attack on federal government institutions, with agencies being dismantled, federal labor protections being weakened, and expert staff being replaced with loyalists. Further, institutional expertise and scientific data are being neutralized with relatively little consequence so far. These conditions increase concerns about systematic corruption and conflicts of interest.
